Springs were coming up my ass!
This story is about Mattress Firm. How Mattress firm handles their warranty claims as it relates to the mattresses that they sell. So, on December 22, 2017 I bought a mattress from that firm located in Oakland Park Plaza, in Hollywood, Fl. I thought that I was buying a Name Brand (Beautyrest) firm mattress for some $850. I chose firm because I didn't want it to sag like a cheap couch, within a few months. At that time, about 4 years ago, I thought that 850 bucks was a lot of money for a mattress. But, witht the sales pitch, "you get a 100 nights to try it. If you don't like you can return it" the sales rep said. He also mentioned a, 10 year warranty. Needless to say I was sold. Now, 4 years later, I finally bought a new mattress, because I so had enough of this piece of crap that I had bought at Mattres Firm. Truth be told, I had been wanting to change mattress about a year and a half ago, because this one was so uncomfortable. Even though I had bought a firm mattress, it was sagging right under my butt, where I sit to watch TV in bed. It had formed a hole there, where my ass would sink into, and as lately, I could feel springs or something poking my ass, as I watched TV. Of course, I rotated the mattress regularly, so now there are two holes; one on each side. To give you a better idea, it's like when you go to Denny' or Ihop, among others, where you sit at a booth that looks ok, but you sink way down until you finally hit bottom and it feels like you're sitting on a giant brillo pad.... Kinda like that. I really needed a change. So, recently I went to city furniture to look at a new bedroom set and mattresses. There, they had one bedroom set in particular that I liked. It was a relly nice looking, modern, High Gloss, white set. Then we looked at mattresses. OMG! Mattress prices have skyrocketted. The one that seemed suitable, was on sale at around $3200. It's $3,799 now! Do you believe that crap??? $3200 bucks for a mattress!!! Well, before jumping to conclusions, I wanted to see numbers. It turns out that witht the bedroom set, the mattress and 2 box springs, and some $179 or so, fee to return the mattress if I don't like it, and a $99 mattress cover to protect from stains and delivery fees and sales tax... Holy crap! we were at some $5700. And the only financing that they offered was 1 year, no interest. Well, that was definitely a "No Go". A week or so later, I checked out Rooms to Go as they had the same mattress. But, this time I didn't like that mattress, because of the memory foam that they use. I find it very uncomfortable. So, we check out a bunch of different beds to find a mattress with less on no, memory foam. I ended up buying a King size Beautyrest Beyond, for some $3298, but it included the adjustable base. There was a $79 mattress cover, a $99 extended warranty on the base and $69 delivery fee. I was at $3,795 out the door. Wow! Imagine that $3795 for a mattress and an adjustable base. The only thing that made it OK, was the 55 months, no interest, promotion. So now that I have a decent bed to sleep on, I decided to file a warranty claim for the crappy, Mattress Firm mattress. It was only 4 years old. I went to mattresfirm.com, to file online. OMG! What a JOKE that was. They give you a choice to file online for free, or have a rep come out to inspect the bed for $79. That's how Mattress Firm discourages you from filing a warranty claim. They want you to pay for someone to inspect the failing mattress. So, I tried the online version. This is the "What A Joke" part. They want you to print a sheet of paper with an image of measurements from their site. So, first, the stupid image printed on 2 pages. Then they want you to fold this paper and put it on the affected spot on the mattress, and lay a broom handle across that area, and take a picture of it to show how much of an indent there is..... How fucking ridiculous. First the paper doesn't stant up straight. I had to prop it up with the TV remote and still it was not a 100%. Also, that paper weighs one sixteenth of an ounce, how the hell is that going to compare to one's ass that may weigh 150 to 200 or more pounds? But I humored them. I did all that crap they wanted. Strip the bed, take various pictures of the mattress with that stupid paper, and of all the manufacturer's tags. Then, remove the mattress, and take pictures of the box spring and it's tags, then remove that and take pictures of the base.... Holy shit! I'm 70 years old, living alone and I have to do all this shit just to file a claim. Are you KIDDING ME? Finally, after gettting my bed back together, (I was exhausted and ready for a nap) I submitted the claim. That was on January 3, 2023. On the 18th, 15 days later, after many requests for a status, I fially received a response with the inspection report that indicated that: "The inspection report revealed the measurements met the manufacturer's standards and are considered normal body impression(s)" I wrote to them the next day, claiming that the method of inspection was a Joke and that I wanted for a rep to come & inspect the mattress. Now, 7 days later, having not heard from them (it's obvious that they blew me off) I wrote them again, but this time included this video that I made to show what a piece of crap that mattress really was and and my intent to publish it everywhere. Well I heard from them the next day. And, again they are just blowing me off as you will see in the email correspondence between us, posted a little furhter down. For now, I absolutely have to show you their really stupid way of determining if a mattress has a valid warranty claim. Below are the online instructions as to what pictures they want, followed by pictures of my mattress.... Click on images to enlarge
Wow! Do you believe the crap that one has to go through, to file a claim for a sagging mattress. It's ridiculous! But, I did it to satisfy them. See the pics below. What did it get me? SHIT! I got blown off, some more! That's what I got. Here are my pics.

After all this trouble, they're telling me that the the mattress meets manufacturer's standards. Well, it was not disclosed to me that according to manufacturer's standards I would have springs COMING UP MY ASS, when I paid $850 for it. What they're saying is that the mattress does not show an indent, simply because a piece of paper that weighs 0.16 of one ounce, is not making an indent in the mattress. They're not saying anything about the parts that are bulging up, (in the last two pictures above) though. What a crock of shit! So there you have it! What's the warranty worth on that very expensive mattress that you are considering? Well, based on Mattress Firm's response in this case, it's not worth CRAP! Mattress Firm does not stand behind the products that they sell. I will NEVER, NEVER, (did I say NEVER?) buy anything from Mattress Firm again. If you do intend on buying from them make sure you understand what you are paying a ton of money for. Definitely, read the fine print as it relates to that misleading 10 year warranty. For the hell of it, I Googles the name of the model beautyrest that I bought. I thought that I was buying a good brand name mattress (beautyrest) but I didn't know that there were cheap vesrions of that name. In the review that I found they refer to this mattress as a recharge. To me that sounds more like a "rebuilt". In short, they're saying that it's their low end "economy" version, (what I would refer to as their "Piece of Crap version) which has been discontinued. Yet in 2017 it sold for $850 bucks. So my take away, is that the Matress Firm rep, sold me a cheap, bottom of the line mattress for a lot of money, citing their "100 nights" return policy and a ?WORTHLESS? 10 year warranty. See the link below for a review of that mattress. Beautyrest Reviews
