Facebook Marketplace Scams - BEWARE!

Well online scams are on the rise! Nothing new there. Actually, I had 2 scam attempts in one week, from Facebook friends; fake accounts of course.

The first one was this very beautiful Chinese girl ? so she says? with whom i communicated for about 5 days. At first it was like a romantic love affair. She neve asked me for money, but was really hell-bent on getting me to invest in Crypto currency; bitcoins. Her premise was that I would invest some $2000 in a very low risk deal, but, that I would give her my bank card in there was a loss, she would refund me. Yeah right! So, that was a very romantic scam that didn't happen, but a great story to add to other "Nigerian Romance Scams" on Bad Business Alerts. That will be coming up soon.

This particula scam, which also didn't happen, was pretty short lived. It goes like this: I had placed some pretty expensive video equipmnet on Facebook marketplace. Didn't get much serious responses except the typical idiots that are fishing for phone numbers.

I did get 2 scam attempts however. I've already mentioned the first one in a different article. This one is very similar in nature, but worth a mention to emphasize how dangerous that Marketplace really is. Incidentally, there was an alert on the news just yesterday about a marketplace car sale that went bad. It's becoming very much like Craigslist.

So, this woman, ?what appears on the Facebook page? messaged me on messenger to inquire about my camera equipment. She asked 2 questions: How long I had used it and my final price. That was it! The she was ready to pay my price, and add $200 for shipping to her partner in New York. Wow Red flags all over the place... But, I played her along.

She asked if I had Zelle, I sis yes, then she asked for my Zelle ID to Zelle me the $3700,00. So, I complied. A few minutes later she asked if I had received a payment confirmation email. I checked my email and there was a Zelle confirmation email from Bank of America. The email advised me that payment was pending until the item was shipped. That I should ship the item and send them the tracking details. There was no shipping address on that notice.

How fucking stupid! They're not even good scammers. It's an obvious Fake notification. First the the Zelle email is: DUH! And, Zelle never sends me emails, my bank does. The notification has no shipping address. and the upload the receipt link, just opens an email composition box to: DUH! again. Of course I didn't react to this except telling that individual (who ever it is) to fuck off.

The whole point to this story is just to show the creeps that lurk on Facebook and it's marketplace. You abolutely can't trust anyone on that platform. Below is our messenger chat, and the email notification. BUYER/SELLER BEWARE!
